GETTING A SECOND CHANCE TO SAY 'I DO'

Jan. 26, 2004 – For the second year in a row, couples will have a chance on Valentine's Day to renew their wedding vows at a Celebration of Love ceremony at Trunk Bay Beach. The ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.
"People should come to reaffirm their belief in marriage," said Cathy Dove, who is one of the ceremony's organizers.
She said the event is also a way to show the community's youth that marriage is important.
Last year 70 couples showed up for the beachfront ceremony. All together the couples represented 1,461 years of marriage, with quite a few married more than 50 years.
This year Dove expects twice the number of couples from last year. And she expects many of those who participated last year to again renew their vows. She said that several visitors indicated they are returning to participate.
The ceremony is conducted by Anne Marie Porter, a nondenominational minister who performs numerous weddings for both visitors and residents.
Dove said the event will also include music.
