JAN. 25 HIKE ON BROWN BAY

The Environmental Association of St. Thomas/St. John (EAST) invites you to explore St. John and learn more about island ecology during a four-mile hike on Brown Bay on Sunday, Jan. 25.
At 9:30 a.m. there will be a safari pickup from Cruz Bay. Meet at the Moravian Church at Coral Bay at 10:30 a.m. The hike will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Brown Bay Beach. Safari pickup from Annaberg will be at 3:15 p.m, and hikers will be dropped off at Cruz Bay at approximately 4 p.m.
EAST notes that this is a somewhat strenuous hike through steep terrain and without shade. Hikers should evaluate their own fitness level before taking part.
All hikers should bring water, snacks, bathing suits and snorkel gear.
Tour guides for the hike will be botanist Barry Devine, Ph.D., of the UVI Conservation Data Center and V.I. National Park Ranger Laurel Tragert.
Price: EAST members, $15; nonmembers, $20.
Hikers traveling from St. Thomas are advised to catch the 9 a.m. (or earlier) ferry from Red Hook.
