Jan. 7, 2004 – The Water and Power Authority announced on Wednesday that a contractor will begin laying a water pipeline from St. Thomas to St. John and an underwater electrical cable from St. Thomas to Little St. James in mid-January.
The company Pirelli High Voltage has been contracted to carry out both projects.
Work on the flexible water pipeline, which will extend from Red Hook on St. Thomas to Turner Bay on St. John, is expected to get under way around Jan. 13 and take two days to complete, WAPA said in a release.
After that, tentatively around Jan. 15, work will commence on laying the cable to provide electrical hookup to Little St. James, with that project also expected to take two days.
WAPA officials ask that mariners and divers avoid the areas where the work is under way.
