I shuddered when I saw the headline… and didnt' do a close up on the photo until I prepared myself. Praises to The Source for showing the photo publicly, though I'm sure it ruined many a meal with it.
I sent that article to friends stateside: I'm sure they will not believe it and would never want to visit the islands because of the stories I tell of what I saw or of the recent articles. When are the Virgin Islanders EVER going to stand up as one and say STOP THE CRUELTY! Because it seems everyone else wants someone else to do something.
Right now, write a letter to your senators, do not elect them again if abuse is not a felony. Donate to the Humane Society, forget your fear of the man next to you and tell someone if he does something cruel to an animal. Get the livestock and pets off the tethers next to the road.
It is up to you as an Islander, someone who lives in Paradise to make it a paradise. Even though I was looking forward to returning for the St Croix Triathlon in May, how do I explain to my freinds I invited to the race, the starving dogs & cats, the horse hit by a car on the route of the triathlon, or the skinny horses tied to trees? You are a territory and unite to stop this: it's so sick and you can't tell me no one but the abuser knew what was happening to these puppies!! It will be a child next.
Do your part as a citizen: donate your caring and an hour of your time to stop this
