UVI Buccaneers Open Season Against Pace Setters on Dec. 19
The UVI Buccaneers Basketball Teams open their 2003-2004 seasons with games on Friday, Dec. 19, when they host the Pace (N.Y.) University Setters men's and women's teams. The women's teams will match up again Saturday evening. Admission is $2 at the door. See more information in the St. Thomas Source Local Sports section.
STARfest 10 Applications Now Available; Show Scheduled for May 8 and 9
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts is seeking participants for its annual talent exhibition, STARfest 10, which is scheduled for May 8 and 9, 2004. Applications are available at these locations: Parrot Fish, Krystal Gifts Galore, the UVI Bookstore and at all Modern Music Stores. The deadline for submission is Jan. 23, 2004. Appraisers and Brokers Prep Course Rescheduled
The preparation course for the Real Estate Appraisers and Brokers Exam, offered by the UVI Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (CELL) Center, has been rescheduled to Feb. 21. The course is designed to provide appraisers and brokers with in-depth information for the exam. The course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, in room C-100 (across from the Greathouse) on UVI's St. Croix campus. The fee for the course is $100. The Real Estate Appraisers and Brokers prep course is part of CELL's Real Estate Salesperson course that will be held on St. Croix in January through February. AutoCAD 2002 Course offered by UVI-CELL on St. Thomas
A course in computer-aided drafting – AutoCAD 2002 – will be offered from Jan. 13 through March 18 on St. Thomas by UVI's CELL Center. The course designed for employees of utility companies, civil engineering and architectural firms will provide a hands-on, practical approach to learning AutoCAD 2002. Course meetings are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 13 to March 18, 2004. They will take place in Teacher Education room 216 on UVI's St. Thomas campus. St. Thomas/St. John Ag Fair Winners Announced
The St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair Committee has announced the following raffle winners:
* 1st Prize – one cow – Mary Alexander
* 2nd Prize – five fruit trees – Mary Alexander
* 3rd Prize – three bags of feed – Emile Boschulte
* 4th Prize – U.V.I. Cookbook, Medicinal Plant book, one bottle of local honey – Winston Worrell
The drawing, originally scheduled for the rained-out St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair, was held on Dec. 14 during the Agriculture Department's annual party.
Seeking Volunteer Cooks for Afternoon on the Green 2004
UVI's Afternoon on the Green Committee is seeking volunteer cooks for the March 14 event. Afternoon on the Green — UVI's annual food, family and fun "friendraiser" — features food based on recipes from around the world. Volunteers are asked to donate a cooked dish, samples of which will be sold at the event. Members of the UVI family are encouraged to contribute a cooked dish and to have their families and friends contribute cooked dishes also. To volunteer, call the institutional advancement office at 693-1040. Proceeds from Afternoon on the Green are used to help fund programs and services for UVI students and faculty.
