God has called his faithful servant Mario Watlington home to rest. He gave much to the Virgin Islands community at large. Though born and raised on St. Thomas, he served the territory at large in education, religion, politics and sports.
He is well known for his many years spent in the field of education, particularly at the Education Department. He was also known for his many contributions to the Democratic Party of the Virgin Islands, where he was at one time a member of the Territorial Committee of the party. He was one of the contributors to the political development of the Virgin Islands from the early days in the 1940s. He was a prominent Anglican who spent many years either on the Vestry or as a convention delegate from the Cathedral Church of All Saints to the Diocesan Conventions. He often gave me counsel on political matters which was always well reasoned and appropriate.
Whatever Mario Watlington did for the community he did with dedication. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Condolences to his wife Lysia, daughter Audrey and son Roy and their children.
Betty and Eric E. Dawson
