RUTNIK URGES GAS-PRICE INVESTIGATION

Dear Editor,
The public is painfully aware that the disparity between gas prices on St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John is most likely the result of some politician lining his/her pockets with a secretive but probably "legal" contract with Puerto Rico.
Let's save us the $50,000 study group. This money could be better spent by hiring one competent person at the Division of Motor Vehicles. (Now that I think about it, why not transfer some of the bodyguards and chauffeurs to DMV? They wouldn't have to work any more than they do now, and their paychecks and benefits would be unaffected as well. Don't even think about GERS.) It's ironic that the ships go to St. Thomas when the gas is on St. Croix. Hmmmm.
The issue of gas price inequity falls by the wayside, however, when you consider the overall stench in the territory. No, not just Government House, but the actual stench from raw sewage floating down our streets. You would think that with all the taxes we pay, we could find some money and qualified people to rectify the situation. Diners who dare to go out for dinner rapidly pinch their noses and run for home. Oops, there went some more gross receipts. Oops, there went another business. Oops, there went some more jobs. Oops, there went some more income taxes. Oops, there went our health. Such a downward spiral we find ourselves in!
This government desperately needs to get an immediate grip on reality. The public is totally nonplussed with their self-imposed grandeur and self-assumed importance. The public (these are the politicians' bosses, by the way) is interested in decent living conditions. Pole vaulting excrement is not part of that picture. Dodging bullets and potholes is not on the top ten list, either.
