Nov. 18, 2003 – A gala gathering in Tillett Gardens on Saturday night will benefit Arts Alive, the presenting arm of the not-for-profit Tillett Foundation.
The event, a "Black and White Gala with a Splash of Pink," will feature live music and dancing, food and drink, and an opportunity for guests to peruse the creative output of the garden's artist and artisan tenants, who'll be keeping their shops, studios and boutiques open until 9 p.m. Many of the owners will be on hand to discuss their work.
The gala runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to come in island elegant attire that is black, white, pink or any combination thereof.
Tickets are $50, with $40 of that amount tax-deductible. Admission includes two complimentary cocktails; there also will be a cash bar.
Arts Alive presents the annual Classics in the Garden concert series, which opens its 17th season on Wednesday with a performance by violinist Bella Hristova and will continue with three other classical recitals in December, February and March. This year's series is a special tribute to Arts Alive founder and producer Rhoda Tillett, who died in August.
Arts Alive also presented arts and crafts festivals Tillett Gardens for more than two decades and is bringing that tradition back this year with a holiday-season fair on Dec. 6 and 7.
For many years the organization also presented an annual young people's classical music competition in the spring.
