Nov. 12, 2004 – Of the four major U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix has been hit the hardest by the unrelenting rain that began inundating the territory early this week.
According to the Red Cross, which has been monitoring the weather activity, conditions on St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island are "manageable." However, a release issued from the Red Cross Thursday evening said, "There is an uncertain level of flooding still occurring on St. Croix."
Flooding on St. Croix almost cost a woman her life when her vehicle stalled in a flooded area and her co-workers had to come to her rescue.

Bill Young, director of Emergency Services at the local Red Cross, said, "At present there have been approximately 14 individuals seeking assistance or information at the St. Croix office of the Red Cross." Four of them were forced to leave their homes due to "in-house flooding."
The release said the affected residents live in Tulipan Mt. Welcome, La Grange, Grove Place and downtown Christiansted.
Wilda Davis, hurricane-watch manager on St. Croix, said the hardest-hit areas are:
– Enfield Green
– Grove Place
– La Grande Princesse
– William's Delight
– Estate Whim
– Upper Love
– Mon Bijou
– La Grange
– La Vallee
– Frangipani
– Gallows Bay
Damage-assessment teams, who have been working to ascertain the need for shelter, family services or mass care, will make contact with people who said they have suffered damages due to the flooding, and a report will be issued, the release said.
People who need immediate assistance are asked to call 778-5104 on St.Croix or 774-0375 on St. Thomas.
