FINANCE BUDGET MEETING POSTPONED TO THURSDAY

Nov. 12, 2003 – The government's fiscal year 2004 budget, due Oct. 1 — or 42 days ago, has been held up for a variety of reasons, and Wednesday a new culprit presented itself: the weather.
The Senate Finance Committee chair, Sen. Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg, announced shortly after noon on Wednesday that the day's budget meeting, which had been scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., has been postponed until 10 a.m. Thursday due to the stormy skies and seas.
With the three St. Croix senators on the committee — Sens. Norman Jn Baptiste, Luther Renee and Ronald Russell — unable to get a flight to St. Thomas on Wednesday morning, Donastorg initially had rescheduled the meeting for 1 p.m. They did get a flight; however, the plane was unable to land on St. Thomas and had to return to St. Croix, Donastorg said.
Wednesday's budget hearing was to have been the last for the Finance Committee, with the measures approved by the end of the day and on Monday to have been taken up by the Rules Committee on Thursday and Friday. Currently, the budget is scheduled to go for its final round in a full Senate session scheduled Monday through Friday. How that schedule will be adjusted remains to be seen.
