Nov. 6, 2003 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen continues to receive recognition for her work with the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust.
She has received two awards, the first from the Opportunities Industrialization Centers International (OIC) and the Constituency for Africa (CFA), the second from Morehouse School of Medicine's National Center for Primary Care.
On Oct. 28, the OIC/CFA presented her with the Leon H. Sullivan Achievement
Award for her leadership in minority health-care issues in the House of
Representatives and in particular for her leadership in the fight against
HIV/AIDS. "Clearly, in your capacity as chairwoman of the Congressional Black
Caucus Health Braintrust, you have led us in the struggle to obtain fair access to health care for the rich and poor alike," the nominating letter read, according to a press release.
On Oct. 30, Christensen received the Leadership in National Health Policy
Award from the Morehouse School of Medicine National Center for Primary Care. "You continue to champion the cause of eliminating health disparities," read the nominating letter. "We salute you for your efforts to equalize Medicaid and Medicare issues facing our nation today."
Christensen said that she was humbled by the awards and pledged to work harder on the health issues of most concern to underserved communities.
