SEMINARS TO FOCUS ON MEDICAL, SPIRITUAL HEALING

Oct. 30, 2003 – Health-care providers and religious leaders will be meeting together in the coming week at Roy L. Schneider Hospital to discuss how their professions can work together to promote healing.
The occasion is the weeklong 10th annual Bio-Medical Ethics Workshop, consisting of different seminars each day from 9 a.m. to noon that will address various issues from the perspectives of medical ethics and spiritual healing.
On Monday, religious leaders are invited to a Clergy Enrichment Seminar.
On Tuesday, Dr. Francesco Isolani, Schneider Hospital chief of anesthesiology, will lead a discussion on pain management.
On Wednesday, Patricia Cummins of the V.I. Christian Science Committee on Publication will talk on the theme "Beyond Pain, Spirituality and Healing."
On Thursday, attorney Harris Angel will make a presentation on the "Legal Rights of Patients to Refuse Medical Treatment."
On Friday, attorney Francis Jackson will speak on the "Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct."
All seminars will take place in Conference Room A at the hospital.
The workshop is sponsored by the Bio-Medical Ethics and Pastoral Care Committee of the St. Thomas/St. John Hospital Governing Board.
Local clergy, physicians, nurses, other health-care providers and others interested in the subject matter are invited to attend. Registration, which covers the full week or seminars, is $50 for physicians, $35 for other health-care professionals and $10 for the public, including clergy and students.
Participating health-care professionals can receive either CME (continuing medical education) or CEU (continuing education) credits. For more information, call 776-8311, ext. 2262 or 2273.
