TEACHER FOUND GUILTY OF 2002 DRUG CHARGES

Sept. 5, 2003 – Jeanne Hughes, an art teacher at Eulalie Rivera Elementary School, has been convicted in Territorial Court of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 1, the Police Department announced in a release on Friday.
According to the release, Hughes was taken into custody by members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force on April 5, 2002, in Estate Profit and was found to be in possession of heroin and "drug paraphernalia used to ingest heroin."
She was placed under arrest on April 17, 2002, "along with 36 other federal and territorial defendants as a result of a two-year investigation into illegal drug activities in Estate Profit," the release stated. "Information gathered during this investigation indicated that Ms. Hughes made nearly daily purchases of heroin and cocaine" over a period of four to five years.
On each of the convictions, Hughes faces a maximum jail term of one year and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
