April 29, 2003 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
Student Academic Awards Programs Set April 29 on Both Campuses
UVI President Dr. LaVerne Ragster will speak at the 2003 Student Academic Awards programs on UVI's St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses on Tuesday, April 29.
St. Croix -The Student Academic Awards program for the St. Croix campus is scheduled 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the Theater (Evans Center room 401).
St. Thomas – The Student Academic Awards program for the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the Sports and Fitness Center.
UVI Carnival Recess May 2-4
Both campuses of the University of the Virgin Islands will be closed from Friday, May 2, through Sunday, May 4, for Carnival Recess. Classes will resume and university offices will reopen on Monday, May 5.
UVI Carnival T-Shirts Are On Sale
Carnival T-Shirts are now on sale by UVI's community engagement committee. Shirts cost $10 each. To purchase a shirt or for more information, call the office of the Provost at 693-1200.
Student Application Deadline for Fall 2003 Semester Is April 30
Prospective UVI students have until Wednesday, April 30, to apply for admission for the Fall 2003 semester. Undergraduate and graduate applications are being accepted. UVI offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in business, mathematics, the physical and biological sciences, social sciences, education, nursing and the humanities. Student Government Association Officers Elected on St. Thomas Campus
Congratulations to the newly elected 2003-2004 St. Thomas Student Government Association executive officers. They are: president, Celestina Nkechi LaPenna; vice president, Kairann George; and treasurer, Marika Blondel.
SBDC Offers Business Plan Writing Seminars on St. Thomas
The UVI Small Business Development Center will conduct seminars on "Writing an Effective Business Plan Part I & Part II" on Monday, May 5, and Monday, May 12. Each session will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the UVI-Small Business Development Center training facility at Nisky Center. The presenters will be Daryl Edwards for May 5th session and Linroy E. Freeman for May 12th session.
Admission for each seminar is $20. Individuals who pre-register and pay for both seminars by noon on Monday, May 5, will be charged only $25. Admission for UVI faculty, staff and students is free, although they must pre-register. For more information and to pre-register call 776-3206 or fax 775-3756.
UVI Concert Band, High School Students in Concert May 10
The UVI Concert Band will join with local high school student performers to present hits from the '40s and '50s in a "Remembering With Callwood" concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium. Local radio personality Richard Callwood Sr., who conducts a weekly show of the same name on WSTA, will host the concert. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available at UVI's Bookstore, the humanities department, and concert band members, at Krystal and Gifts Galore at Tutu Park Mall) and at Dockside Bookshop in Havensight.
SBDC to Offer Microsoft PowerPoint Workshop on St. Croix
The UVI Small Business Development Center will conduct an "Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint" workshop from 4:45 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at the UVI SBDC Training Center located in the Sunshine Mall lower level, St. Croix. For more information and to pre-register, call UVI-SBDC at 692-5270.
