JIMMY O'BRYAN NAMED ST. THOMAS ADMINISTRATOR

April 29, 2003 – James O'Bryan Jr. has been named St. Thomas/Water Island administrator.
Government House announced the appointment by Gov. Charles W. Turnbull on Tuesday. O'Bryan, now assistant to the governor for public affairs and policy initiatives, assumes the post vacated in January when Louis Hill resigned to become a St. Thomas-St. John district senator.
O'Bryan, long active in the Democratic Party, served one term as a senator, in the 16th Legislature. He was press secretary to Gov. Alexander A. Farrelly and has been the principal spokesman for the Turnbull administration as head of the Office of Public Relations.
He is serving his second term as chair of the V.I. Democratic Party, chairs the governor's multi-agency task force charged with clearing St. Thomas of abandoned vehicles and other litter, and is president of Virgin Islanders for Responsive Government. Earlier this month, he got yet another Government House assignment: to chair a task force overseeing the rebuilding of the collapsed Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow in Rothschild Francis "Market" Square on St. Thomas.
He is a native St. Thomian and a 1974 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School. He holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications and political science from Boston University.
