Dec. 11, 2002 – St. Thomas native, U.S. Army Pvt. 2 Cerena "Genelle" Todman, continues a family tradition of military service. She is a part of a generation of descendants from U.S. Virgin Islanders and British Virgin Islanders who are "proud of serving in the U.S. military and honoring their illustrious ancestors," according to a release.
Todman is a transportation management specialist and is currently assigned to an Army Reserve where she is continuing her undergraduate studies at Bloomfield College in New Jersey.
There's a family member in every branch of service, including the Merchant Marines, in Todman's family. She is the daughter of Sgt. 1st Class Arrick "Kenny" Todman and Hillis Wheatley Todman. Her late grandfather, Sgt. Bernard "Hamlet" Wheatley, served on active duty during Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Panama, and as a reservist in the Army National Guard.
Todman graduated from basic training at the U.S. Army Basic Combat Training School Aug. 15, 2002. Then she attended basic combat training at the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Jackson, S.C. Upon completion of her Fort Jackson training, she attended the U.S. Army advanced individual training at Fort Eustis, Va., starting on Oct. 8, 2002.
Todman is on a fast start to a promising career under the guidance of her parents; her aunt, Army Maj. Hillaire Wheatley Woodard, and her uncle, Maj. Dwight Woodard.
