UVI Offering Volleyball Clinics for Elementary School Children
UVI's Education Division is offering a series of free volleyball clinics on the St. Thomas campus for elementary school children. The next clinic is 3 p.m. Wednesday in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. Teaching will run from 3:10 to 4:10 p.m. Professor Elridge Blake, a coach with 25 years experience in the Virgin Islands, will be the instructor. Blake said that the emphasis will be on learning and that the goal is to prepare participants for tournament play. For details, call 693-1198.
Virgin Gorda Excursion Planned for Veterans Day
The UVI community is invited to explore Virgin Gorda on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The Student Activities Office of the St. Thomas campus is organizing the day-long excursion, which includes an island tour, swimming at the Baths and passage on the air-conditioned M/V Peacemaker ferry. The cost is $55 faculty and staff, $40 for students, and $60 for guests of faculty, staff or students.
Transportation from the St. Thomas campus, boat transportation, ground transportation on Virgin Gorda, lunch and entertainment are included. Call 693-1111 for more information. Boat capacity is 150, so seats are limited.
UVI Little Theatre to Produce 'The Dancing Mice'
The UVI Little Theatre will present "The Dancing Mice," by Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Patrick, as its fall 2002 production. The play, described as a "sad and funny" look at the lives of a group of modern-day inner-city residents, will run for two weekends, Nov. 15-17 and Nov. 22-24 in the UVI Little Theatre in the CA Building on St. Thomas. Tickets ($5 for students and $10 for adults) will go on sale in November at the following locations: Humanities Building and UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus, Nisky Pharmacy and Dockside Bookstore.

UVI, IASTED to Co-host Information and Knowledge Sharing Conference
UVI and the International Association of Science and Technology will host an international conference on Information and Knowledge Sharing on St. Thomas from Nov. 18 to 20, at the Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Resort. UVI Associate Professor of Computer Science Dr. Marc Boumedine is serving as the conference chair. Boumedine will present the conference's opening remarks Nov. 18. Later that day Dr. Borko Furht of Florida Atlantic University will present the keynote address: "Internet Glory, Collapse and Beyond."
IKS 2002 will cover the latest developments in knowledge and information sharing, knowledge engineering and management, networking and telecommunications, applications, services and tools.

Co-ed Volleyball for Retirees Class Offered on St. Thomas Campus
UVI's Education Division will offer a one-hour, co-ed Volleyball for Retirees class on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Professor Elridge Blake, a volleyball coach and trainer for 25 years, will be the instructor. Blake will accept registration Mondays through Thursdays, between 10:50 and 11:30 a.m., at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. Class sessions will commence after the first 14 students register. A maximum of 25 students will be accepted. Blake urges retirees to get clearance from their doctors before taking this class. For information, call 693-1198.
