ST. CROIX PROBLEM NOT CRIME BUT ITS ACCEPTANCE

Dear Source,
I just read that St. Croix lost another cruise ship line. I saw this happening last summer when we visited your special island. I wrote of how I thought and saw that small crimes were your island's main industry. I wrote that everyone at our hotel and the car rental told us to leave our car unlocked because there was an understanding. They knew each car would be a potential robbery, and the understanding was if the car was unlocked, if the thieves had free access, they wouldn't break any windows or cause any car damage. They'd just take what they could find and grab.
This industry, this robbery, is known to all, and I saw nothing done about it. I photographed a bandit crouched down and checking out a line of cars at the park at the most eastern point in your island.
I will not return to your island. I will not put my family in this danger again.
I wrote that failure is your island's future. And here it comes.
I feel safer on St. Thomas and even more so on St. John. We'll visit them again and often. We'll never go back to St. Croix. And we tell everyone we meet.
