WOMAN, CHILD DIE HOURS AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR

Aug. 2, 2001 – A 33-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl died Wednesday night from injuries sustained when they were struck by an automobile Wednesday afternoon near the Clinton E. Phipps Race Track.
Ilma Dyer was walking in the Bovoni/Nadir area, and Wilshana Stuart, 10, was riding a bicycle when they were hit, according to a Police Department release. It said the accident occurred near a roadside garbage bin.
The child died at 7:15 p.m. and Dyer died at 9:59 p.m., the release said.
Police were continuing to investigate the incident. No arrests had been made as of noon Thursday.
Incorrect information provided by police late Wednesday afternoon said the two injured parties both were minors.
