June 11, 2001 — The University of the Virgin Islands Youth Moviemaking Workshop has extended the deadline for applications until June 20, Dionne Carty, UVI marketing manager announced Monday.
The summer workshop, running from June 25 through August 9, is a first-time opportunity for young V.I. film makers to learn digital film production, and to actually produce a movie of their own, as a final project.
The workshop will provide intensive training in use of digital cameras, computers and use of leading software programs in the relatively new field of digital film making. "Students would have the opportunity to use their creativity, intelligence and energy in a positive way to create films about our culture, history and our way of viewing the world," said David Edgecombe, Reichhold Center director.
The workshop is open to 15 participants. The cost is $700 ( $100 per week), with breakfast, lunch and snacks provided. Need-based scholarships are available. Self-motivated students who have demonstrated an aptitude in the fine arts – photography, music, dance, writing, dancing, painting – are encouraged to apply.
