PLASKETT RESIGNS WAPA BOARD

Dean Plaskett, Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, has announced his resignation from the Water and Power Authority Governing Board.
In a letter to board chairwoman Carol M. Burke, Plaskett said "with the additional responsibilities" placed on him by his recent appointment to the Economic Development Board along with his duties as commissioner he was forced to resign.
This WAPA governing board has nine members which included three government officials who serve at the governor's pleasure and six individuals who cannot be local or federal government employees. Those six require Senate confirmation.
Terms are for three years and are to be staggered so two members' terms expire each year. Each member may serve until a successor is sworn in.
The release from Government House did not mention any possible replacement for Plaskett. His resignation becomes effective April 17.
Ira Hobson, commissioner of Housing, Parks and Recreation and Andrew Rutnik, commissioner of Licensing and Consumer Affairs are the remaining government appointees. The other members are: Burke, William E.Lomax, Claude A. Molloy Sr., J. Arthur Downing, G. Luz James, Alphonso Franklin .
