APPLY NOW FOR SUMMER SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

Three full tuition scholarships are available to high school students in grades 10 and 11 for the Junior Statesman Summer School Program held at several prestigious university campuses in the U.S. this summer.
Program recruiter Ernest Morris will be in St. Thomas March 20 to March 22 and in St. Croix throughout the month of March to visit each high school and meet with interested students, parents, teachers and others who want to learn more about this opportunity.
The U.S. Department of the Interior has offered three full tuition and transportation scholarships to outstanding students in the U.S. Virgin Islands each summer for the Junior Statesman Summer School since 1991. To date, 187 students from the Virgin Islands have attended.
The program covers exciting college level courses in government and speech. Students will participate in nightly debates of controversial topics in a congressional simulation, will meet and question government leaders, and will have the opportunity to develop and polish their leadership skills.
Admission to the program is based on academic achievement, leadership, and interest in politics or government. To apply, each student should submit a copy of their high school grades, a three page personal essay, and a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 6. It is not necessary to be a U.S. citizen but each student must be fluent in English.
The scholarship covers all tuition costs, housing, and all meals, and includes round-trip transportation to the summer school of the student's choice. Summer programs will be held at Stanford University in California, July 1 to July 26; Northwestern University near Chicago, June 25 to July 20; Princeton University near New Jersey, June 25 to July 20; Yale University in Connecticut, July 2 to July 27; and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., July 9 to July 30.
