MARLINS GO 2-0 IN SENTHILL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Marlins bombed Smith Bay Posse Friday night in the championship series of the Donald O. Senthill Softball League, 18-4 at Emile Griffith Park.
The Marlins bats started hot and nothing could stop them as they erupted for 5 runs in the top of the first inning. However, the 'Posse did answer with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Marlins then tagged on an additional run in the top of the second inning.
The 'Posse was held scoreless by Marlins starting pitcher Elvis Lewis in the second, third and fourth innings. The Marlins added to their lead with 4 runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead. They took a 11-2 lead in to the bottom of the fifth inning where the 'Posse scored 2 runs.
However, the Marlins quickly answered with 5 runs in the top of the sixth thanks to home runs from Elroy Hill and Alfred Maduro, each with a man on base. The 'Posse was held scoreless once again in the bottom of the sixth. The Marlins continued their offensive dominance with solo home runs from Kwodwo Branningan and Hill in the top of the seventh inning.
Raymond Smith got the lost for the 'Posse as Lewis picked up the victory for the Marlins. "We go them right where we want them." the Marlins catcher Michael Bute noted. "We're going for the sweep" Bute added. For the Marlins, Maduro was perfect in four plate appearances. Meanwhile, Hill, Carlos David and Emil Aska contributed a 3 for 4 performances at the plate each. For the 'Posse, Steve Parris had a two for three performance and Greg Smith contributed 2 hits in 4 at bats .
The Marlins take a 2-0 lead in the best of seven championship series. Game three of the championship series will be at 7:30pm on Monday night. The series will be aired live on WVWI, Radio One, 1000 AM.
