The Marlins blew away the Mountaineers Tuesday night by a score of 9-1 at Emile Griffith Park in semifinal action of the Donald O. Senthill Softball League. In the women's game, Sumting Nu failed to field a team in their semifinal matchup with Cummin 2 Cum.
Sumting Nu forfeited the game and series to Cummin 2 Cum. Cummin 2 Cum wins the best of five series three games to none and advances to the championship round to face the defending champion Angels.
Marlins pitcher Elvis Lewis started the game by striking out the first two Mountaineers batters, Jerome and Jeffrey Boschulte. Lewis then walked Chris Berry, but retired cleanup hitter James Boschulte Jr. on a fly ball to centerfield to end the inning.
This was a sign of things to come, as Lewis struck out another three of the next six out he recorded. Lewis struck out a total of seven Mountaineer hitters.
The Marlins scored two runs in each of the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead. Lewis helped his own cause with a 3 for 3 performance at the plate to lead the Marlins offensive attack. Lewis' teammates Elroy Hill and Sandino Brito added two hits apiece.
Meanwhile, Lewis kept the Mountaineers offense at bay as he only allowed them three scattered hits. The Marlins take a 2-1 lead in the best of five game series.
