18-YEAR-OLD WOMAN SLAIN DURING ARMED ROBBERY

An armed robbery on the south coast of St. Thomas ended in murder this weekend, claiming the life of an 18-year-old woman.
Sources said St. Thomas homicide detectives responded shortly before sunrise Sunday to reports of a fatal shooting in the area of Green Cay Plantation, on the southern side of the Frenchman's Bay road leading to Donkey Hill. There the officers found the unidentified young woman dead of a single gunshot wound to the head.
The victim's male companion reportedly told police the two were in their vehicle when they were confronted by gunmen who later shot the woman.
Police have not commented on the shooting. Anyone with information should contact the VIPD Major Crime Unit at 774-2196, police emergency 911 line or the confidential crime line at 777-8711.
Sunday's murder brings to 19 the number of killings in the territory this year. There have been 12 murders in the St. Thomas-St. John district and seven on St. Croix.
