ELECTIONS BOARD PROBING SOME ABSENTEE VOTES

The St. Croix Board of Election is investigating the contention that at least seven persons who voted in the Nov. 7 general election in the Virgin Islands also voted in another U.S. jurisdiction, which goes against V.I. law.
Raymond "Usie" Richards said he brought his findings to the Board of Elections at its Dec. 6 meeting. At that time, he informed them that during his post-election battle with Sen. Vargrave Richards for the seventh St. Croix Senate seat he discovered that some of those who voted by absentee ballot in the Virgin Islands were either a registered voter or voted on the same day in U.S. jurisdiction from Washington State to New York City.
Elections Supervisor John Abramson Jr. confirmed that he has launched an investigation into the matter though he indicated he could not reveal too much during the investigation.
"I am hoping to have the investigation wrapped up in a few weeks with findings of any wrongdoing sent to the attorney general's office for prosecution," he said.
Richards said, "It is my hope that the members of the St. Croix Board of Elections and the Supervisor of Elections do all in their power to punish all voters who have committed a fraud upon the integrity of the V.I. electoral process. I expect when the documents have been forwarded to the attorney general, he would act vigorously in the prosecution of the fraudulent acts."
