FRIDAY NOT GOVERNMENT HOLIDAY

With Veterans Day falling on Saturday this year, Friday will be a normal work day for most Virgin Islands government employees, including supervisory personnel.
Supervisors, who once took Fridays off when official holidays fell on Saturdays, will not have Friday off either, according to the government's chief negotiator, Karen M. Andrews.
In a memo directed to all "department and agency heads" Andrews reminded supervisors that under their most recent union contract they may take a personal leave day sometime within the 12 months following the Saturday holiday, but not Friday.
Andrews explained Thursday night that the former policy made no sense, as all the supervisors were off while those they supervised were on the job. Therefore, when the last contract was negotiated the policy was changed.
Andrews said the memo was a reminder of the new contract's terms.
However, at least one government agency's offices will be closed Friday. West Indian Co. Ltd. announced earlier this week that its administrative office would be closed Friday to observe Veterans Day. WICO spokesman Calvin Wheatley said the day was one of 15 holidays being observed "this year" by the company.
