SENATE GETS NEW 'HIGH-TECH' VOTING SYSTEM

A new electronic voting system for senators is being installed in the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall, according to a memorandum from the Legislature's executive director, Maureen Rabsatt-Cuellar.
Manufactured by MTI, Inc., the device, called an Automated Municipal Voting System, "offers a high-tech voting process" customized to the particular needs of the V.I. Legislature, according to the statement, with an emphasis on the most practical, reliable and cost-effective features.
The memorandum did not state the cost of the system.
Training scheduled for Monday and Tuesday has forced the delay of Senate business, including the continuing Finance Committee hearings on the Fiscal Year 2001 budget. The system is expected to be completely installed by Wednesday.
