FORMER V.I. TEACHER URGES STRIKERS TO HOLD ON

Dear Source,
I am so proud of the Virgin Islands teachers who are striking. They are finally showing the VI government that they mean business. They have been taken advantage for far too long and finally they have had enough.
Our governor asks, "What about the children?" Well, this is the best education our children can get. They are learning the importance of labor rights and ethics. It is good for them to see a nonviolent revolution taking place.
I wish that I were at home to march but I am continuing the struggle from miles away. I am praying for the V.I. teachers to have fortitude in these times, because people will ridicule them and try to shut them up. But they must hold strong and steadfast to their goal. They are fighting for what they deserve.
March on my fellow educators, march on.
Marie Jacob
former V.I. educator
