The V.I. Water and Power Authority on Tuesday advised some 200 residents in Cruz Bay to boil water for drinking until further notice.
According to WAPA spokeswoman Patricia Blake Simmonds, chloroform, a byproduct of human waste, was detected in the St. John water supply. "There was contamination at the end of the potable water system where water was pooling and had become stagnant," she said. "So we're opening up the system and flushing it out."
"The system appears to be all right now, but we want to double-check," she said.
