ALBERT EDWARD SEWER DEAD AT 89

Well-known St. John businessman Albert Edward Sewer died Friday in New York. He was 89.
Sewer was one of St. John's first established businessmen.. He was a tailor and dressmaker. He also established a small department store, Sewer's Cut-Rate Store, in Cruz Bay.
Sewer, active in community affairs, was a charter member of the St. John Lion's Club and was past president of the St. John Celebration Committee.
He served on the advisory committee for the Boy Scouts, was a member of the Tax Review Board and served on several other governmental boards.
Sewer was also and avid cricketer and sportsman.
He was an active member of the Bethany Moravian Church, serving on several church committees.
He is survived by his wife Pearl Bell Sewer, a son Earl DeWindt, a daughter Harriet Riddick, four grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at Bethany Moravian Church followed at 9 a.m. by the funeral service.
Burial will be at Cruz Bay Cemetery.
