COYOTE UGLY

It's probably a very good idea when you see a film script written by four writers, or more than one director, to go do something else – going bowling or looking for four leaf clovers come to mind.
In any event, if you're determined to go to a movie anyhow, "Coyote Ugly" lives up to the four-writer premise.
Set in New York's Greenwich Village, in a real bar by the name of Coyote Ugly, we meet Violet Sanford ( Piper Perabo), who has come to the big city to seek her fortune as a songwriter. However, in order to purse her dream she works as a barmaid at the Ugly, which actually, can get pretty ugly. Sanford puts a mild riot to rest early on in the film by diverting the action by belting out songs (not songs she's written), and earns herself a little notoriety. This doesn't sit well with her jealous beau Kevin ( Adam Garcia, an Aussie newcomer), or her father (John Goodman). Oh, dear.
The film has been called "ludicrously entertaining," which should appeal to some people, and "glittery trash," which, hopefully, won't appeal to anybody. One reviewer, however, predicted that it may become a cult classic, so do get in on the ground floor.
Directed by only one, David McNally, it is rated PG-13 for sensuality.
It starts Thursday at Sunny Isles Theaters.
