READER IN TEXAS WANTS THE ‘REAL STORY’ OF STX

Dear Source:
I have been seriously working on a move that will bring me to St. Croix as a small business owner and resident. During my research, which includes a daily review of The Source, I have noticed a very high ratio of bad-to-good news.
Yes, crime and the myriad of other "problems" encountered by St. Croix happen everywhere, but these issues seem to be very disproportionate for a place as
small as St. Croix.
Ten homicides a year would be a Godsend in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. But with St. Croix’s population of 60,000, I must say that I am more than a little
concerned. Taking your homicide rate and applying it incrementally to our population, that's 420,000 homicides a year – A WAR ZONE!
One of the other things that I have noticed, and by relation a very small indicator, is the number of homes for sale — cheap. On an island as small as St. Croix, one wouldn't expect to see this high a number; it gives the impression of "bailing out."
Moving to "America's Paradise" should be considered a chance of a lifetime, but I now find myself having second thoughts. Can this place be as bad as it is made to look? Is it as run down as it sounds? I am inviting anybody living, or having lived, on St. Croix to contact me, HREF="mailto:allynwalters@msn.com">allynwalters@msn.com, with the "real story," as of course any real estate agent will tell you how wonderful everything is… blah, blah, blah.
Thank you,
Allyn Walters
