AUTOPSY SHOWS VISITOR'S DEATH DUE TO DROWNING

A 40-year-old New Jersey resident visiting St. John drowned around mid-day Monday while snorkeling near Water Lemon Cay.
He was identified by the medical examiner's office as Francis James McBeigh Jr.
According to V.I. National Park chief ranger Schuyler Brown, McBeigh was among a group of vacationers snorkeling and swimming at the scenic dive spot offshore from the Annaberg Plantation.
"We got the call around 12 [noon]," Brown said. He said emergency personnel "tried to do some resuscitation" without success.
After perfoming an autopsy Tuesday, the St. Thomas-St. John district medical examiner, Dr. Francisco J. Landron, confirmed that the cause of death was drowning.
Brown said he believed McBeigh was part of a group visiting from the New York/New Jersey area that was staying at a villa on St. John.
