POLICE IDENTIFY DEAD MAN

Police have identified the victim of Friday night's fatal shooting as 38-year-old Dominica native Aaron Stedman.
His body was found around 10:30 that night in a gutter behind the Blue Corner bar near the entrance to the road that leads to Soto Town. Police estimated the body had been there for about an hour before it was discovered.
Homicide investigators, who have worked through the weekend on the case, have made no arrests. However, police officials said Monday that "the case is progressing."
Police units initially responded to the area Friday night to reports from citizens who heard "shots fired in the area," but a police source said Monday that when officers got there, they made an inspection, found nothing and left. About 30 minutes later, a second call came in that a body was in the same area where the shots had been heard, the general vicinity of the Blue Corner bar.
When officers returned on the second call, they found Stedman with gunshot wounds to the head and hip.
Police investigators renewed their appeal to the community Monday, asking anyone with information to contact homicide detectives at 774-2196,774-4050 or the emergency number, 911.
Stedman's death brings to eight the number of murders this year in the territory. Six have been recorded in the St. Thomas-St. John district, two in St. Croix.
