TIME TO RISE ABOVE THE APATHY, READER SAYS

I totally agree with every word of Catherine Lockhart Mills ’ recent Op-Ed article. I am a part-time resident of St. Croix, spending the other half of my life in Chicago.
I never thought anything could rival the theater that is politics in Chicago, but the VI government wins the Oscar. When I ask my friends who are full-time residents of St. Croix how they can sit back and just tolerate the way things are, they just shrug their shoulders and say "I try not to think about it."
Virgin Islanders have seemingly lost their pride and self respect. They have not only been embezzled from and lied to by the likes of Jeffrey Prosser, but by their elected officials as well. How some of these senators continue to be re-elected is a mystery to me.
I too have known many fine hard working people who have been forced to leave St. Croix and it saddens me greatly to see these precious resources being lost to the island. Virgin Islanders must rise above their current apathy and demand better from the government, law enforcement, businessmen and tourism officials. If not, we will all suffer.
Maybe a major house cleaning by the federal government is what it will take to get things back on the right track and give us back the pride we once had in the Virgin Islands. It's not too late and we shouldn't turn away and try not to think about it. That's why we are where we are.
