WOMEN'S DIRECTORY 2000 GEARING UP

With the 2nd annual issue of The Virgin Islands Women's Directory scheduled to come out in 2000, the publishers have set the goal of including information on 2,000 women in its pages. That would be a tenfold increase from the 1999 inaugural issue, which has listings for about 200 women, but founders Stephanie Scott-Williams and Stacy Bourne think they have a workable plan to pull it off.
"This is first and foremost a women's directory, and not a business directory," Scott-Williams says. Women can list not only their professional services but their "hobbies and other areas of interest."
Also, she said, the second issue will be expanded from St. Thomas to include St. Croix and St. John listings.
Entries are organized alphabetically by last name and also by professional category. A basic listing of name, address, telephone, fax, e-mail and professional identification line costs $5.
Additional listings of business name, cellular phone and other information is $5 more. Display advertising can also be placed at rates available from the publishers.
Bourne, an architect and owner of Innovations By Design, and Scott-Williams, a business services provider, decided to create the directory a year ago because they felt the need for a forum
for working women to network, pool resources and exchange ideas and information in a freely accessible marketplace.
"Our listings cover everything from attorneys to community activists to notaries to University of the Virgin Islands students to cake bakers," Bourne says.
On St. Thomas, information forms for the 2000 issue are available now at East End Secretarial Services in Red Hook, Silk Greenery in Fort Mylner, Innovations By Design in Havensight and St. Thomas Communications in Crown Bay. To obtain a form on St. Croix, call Cheryl Henderson Davis at 778-8254. To get one on St. John, call Cheryl Miller at 776-6179.
Businesses or individuals interested in helping to distribute forms throughout the community are asked to call Borne at 777-8046. Copies of the 1999 issue are available at Innovations By Design in Havensight Mall, The Comfort Zone in the Port of $ale mall and Tillett Art Gallery in Tillett Gardens.
