EPA TO DO CLEANUP IN SUB BASE

The Environmental Protection Agency has offered to rid a V.I. government central supply warehouse in Sub Base of hazardous materials to avoid further contamination due to hurricanes. The cleanup will be paid for by the V.I. government.
The cleanup will involve packaging, removing and disposing of flammable, corrosive materials at the site, which was leased by Joyous Inc. last year.
The company was never able to take occupancy due to the hazardous materials stored in the building.
Property and Procurement and Public Works are assisting in clearing the way for the EPA cleanup, according to a release from Government House.
Once the area has been cleared of salvageable government property and hazardous materials, Joyous Inc. will have access to the facility at Parcel No. 21 Sub Base in keeping with the terms of its lease.
No one could be reached at EPA or PWD to clarify the nature of the contaminants and when the removal will take place.
