An American Airlines 757 was forced to return to Cyril E. King Airport on Thursday after its number one engine malfunctioned.
Flight 314 took off close to 5 p.m. but returned minutes later, landing safely at about 5:05 p.m., according to Minnette Velez, spokeswoman for American corporate communications in San Juan. No one was injured.
Velez said though it was originally thought another 757 would be sent Thursday night to take passengers from St. Thomas to San Juan, "that didn't happen."
"Instead, some of the 128 passengers took American Eagle flights to San Juan last night," she said. "Others were accommodated at hotels on St. Thomas."
Flight 314 finally took off Friday morning, according to Velez. The flight continues on from San Juan to Baltimore. Velez did not say what time the flight left Friday.
Velez could not say exactly what the trouble was with the engine.
