THIRD VIRGIN ISLANDER SIGNED UP FOR AMERICA'S CUP

Ben Beer of St. Thomas will sail in the America's Cup on the foredeck of America True. Dawn Riley, America True CEO and captain said, "He has the background and skills needed to succeed in the America's Cup. We are very happy to make him a part of the team."
America True is the San Francisco Yacht Club challenge for the America's Cup.
The Wednesday announcement came as a surprise to local America's Cup followers. Beer was picked by observers as the most likely to join Peter Holmberg at the merged V.I. Challenge/Team Dennis Conner.
"It was a very difficult decision for me," said Beer, "I had to weigh many factors. Peter has taught me a great deal, as will as bringing this opportunity to me."
There will be some familiar faces at America True from St. Thomas. John Cutler formerly with the V.I. Cup Challenge and Steve Gruver a former St. Thomas resident are among the America True team. Dawn Riley is remembered by many in St. Thomas from her participation in the 1997 Marriott Frenchman's Reef Match Racing event, especially as leader of the St. Thomas girls team in the youth regatta.
Beer was born and raised in St. Thomas. His parents Bill and Sue Beer operated the True Love charter schooner for many years.
