St. Croix Man Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges After Alleged Assault on Wife

Virgin Islands Police Department patrol officers arrested 51-year-old Samuel Menzies Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted his wife and destroyed her property during a domestic dispute, the department reported.

Police said the incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. The victim told officers she was preparing for work when her husband, Menzies, told her to change her clothes, saying they were inappropriate for her workplace.

According to the police report, Menzies then entered the bedroom, grabbed his wife, and dragged her into the living room, where he threw her onto the couch and struck her several times on the forearms. The woman told police that Menzies picked her up again, dragged her back into the bedroom, and used a pair of cutting shears to cut her leggings.

Police said the victim fled the home in fear for her safety and sought help from a neighbor, who assisted her in contacting law enforcement. Officers from the VIPD Patrol Division later arrested Menzies and charged him with simple assault and battery (domestic violence) and destruction of property (domestic violence).
