Virgin Islands’ top-ranked track star Michelle Smith has signed a multiyear Name, Image, and Likeness deal with Adidas.
Smith closed out 2024 with impressive accomplishments, securing two gold medals at the CARIFTA Games. She won the 400-meter hurdles in 56.28 seconds andย placedย in theย 800 metersย with a time of 2:06.18.
Earlier this year, Smith was named Monteverde Academyโs โUnsung Heroโ for cross-country and โMost Valuable Athleteโ for track and field. At 18, she earned widespread recognition for her consistency and forย representingย the Virgin Islands with pride.
โItโs heartwarming and encouraging to see people supportive of my hard work; it motivates me to push harder toward my overall goal,โ Smith said.
Smith continues to be supported by her coaches and parents,ย Keithย and Mirielle Smith, both of whom were former champions in the sport.
โMy mindset has evolved from when I first started,โ Smith said. โAt first, I was just running and doing what I had to do for the sport. But now, I have a game plan, set goals, and follow specific guidelines. My eating habits, sleep patterns, and good training help me focus and stay dedicated.โ
Smithโs hard work and dedication have earned her the Adidas deal, which comes with both benefits and challenges. She is ecstatic about the opportunity and prepared to be the brand’s ambassador, wearing trendy gear this upcoming season.
โThe partnership with Adidas is a big deal, but I like to take one step at a time instead of focusing on everything at once,โ she said. โFor anyone aspiring toย follow in my footstepsย and land such partnerships,ย Iโdย say to shape up your discipline. When the going gets tough, and even when you feel like quitting, youย canโt. You just must keep going.โ
Smith continues to train and prepare for upcoming meets, including CARIFTA in April and aย possible summerย competition.
