The V.I. Police Department has issued an Amber Alert for a missing 2-year-old St. Croix toddler who was last seen Sunday and reported missing on Monday.
Cataleya Lehlani Deberry is a Hispanic/Black girl who is 33.5 inches tall and weighs approximately 23 pounds, according to the alert. She was last seen Sunday wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, long pajama pants with Disney characters and multicolored Crocs.
Asked if police suspect foul play in the child’s disappearance, VIPD Communications Officer Toby Derima said “detectives are following some leads but it is difficult to say what the suspicions are right now.”
Sources close to the investigation confirmed that the father did leave island as of Sunday with the minor child. At this point, however, authorities are not classifying it as a kidnapping.
Anyone who has seen Cataleya Lehlani Deberry or knows her whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately. Information can also be called in to the Crime TipLine at 340-778-2211 or Crime Stoppers USVI at 800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
