The V.I. Police Department on Monday arrested 35-year-old Desiree Bell and charged her with larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle after she reportedly told officers she had driven off with the vehicle Sunday.
According to the VIPD report, at about 11 a.m. Sunday the victim parked a rental car in front of the Hook, Line & Sinker restaurant in Frenchtown and left the car’s engine running. Police said that surveillance shows an unknown individual entering and driving away with the vehicle.
At about 10:20 a.m. Monday, officers from the Richard N. Callwood Command Patrol Division were dispatched to Haabets Gade in Charlotte Amalie in reference to a recovered vehicle that had been stolen. At 10:50 a.m., while members of the Forensics Unit were processing the recovered vehicle, an individual later identified as Bell walked up the crime scene and admitted that she had gotten into the running vehicle Sunday and drove off with it.
Police arrested Bell and charged her with unauthorized use of a vehicle, petit larceny and possession of stolen property. Bail was set at $25,000 and, unable to post bail, she was turned turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advice of rights hearing.
