An archaeological survey of the Coki Point beach facility on St. Thomas, a requirement before the start of renovations of the beach facilities, begins Monday.
“To accommodate the archaeological survey and the construction of the facility, the area has been fenced off and no one will be allowed to traverse the area,” said St. Claire N. Williams, commissioner of Housing, Parks and Recreation.
The Coastal Zone Management Permit provides conditions that require the construction of a temporary platform immediately adjacent to the seaward chain-link fence to accommodate the legitimate vendors to setup and sell their goods, Williams said.
“This means that only the vendors with an approved permit from the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation are allowed to operate as vendors at the Coki Point Beach, which will be strictly enforced,” Williams said.
The V.I. Police Department and the departments of Planning and Natural Resources and Licensing and Consumer Affairs have joined forces with the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation to create a coordinated effort in controlling traffic and ensuring a safe and enjoyable atmosphere, Williams said.
