Feb. 11, 2008 –The Elmo Plaskett Little league East kicked off its 2007 season with four games over the weekend at the D.C. Canegata ballpark.
On Saturday, the Suns 7-9 and 10-12 squads swept both games, while on Sunday the 10-12 Suns and the 10-12 Angels came away winners.
Saturday: 10-12 Division
Suns 6, Dodgers 2
On Saturday, the Suns outlast the Dodgers 6-2. Although both teams tallied four hits, three costly errors by the Dodgers proved to be the difference. The Suns scored six runs on four hits with no errors, while the Dodgers had two runs on four hits with three errors. The winning pitcher was Christopher Joseph, while Romani Hansen got the loss for the Dodgers. Top hitters for the Dodgers were Elijah Felix, 1 for 1 with one RBI, and Nayie Gonzalez, 1 for 1 with one RBI. For the Dodgers, Jashawn Graham went 1 for 1 with one RBI and Conroy Samuel went 1 for 2.
7-9 Division
Suns 22, Reds 4
In game two Saturday, the 7-9 Suns walloped the Reds 22-10 to complete an opening-day sweep for the Suns organization. They scored 22 run on 10 hits with two errors, while the Reds had four runs on two hits while committing three errors. Marquis Sexius pitched a two-hitter to pick up the win for the Suns. Jahmarie Morton got the loss for the Reds. Top hitters for the Suns were Amante Todman, 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs; Devante Baily, 1 for 1 with a home run and four RBIs; and Asa Oneal, 1 for 2 with one RBI.
Sunday (two 10-12 contests)
Angels 7, Yankees 5
On Sunday the Angels outlasted the Yankees 7-5 in a tight game. The Angels scored seven runs on five hits while committing one error, and the Yankees had five runs on three hits and committed two errors. The winning pitcher was Evanston Matthew, and Lakish Plante got the loss. Top hitters for the Angels were Mathew, 1 for 2 with one RBI, and Saji Jarvis, 1 for 2 with two RBIs. For the Yankees, Rasheede Knight went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and Akeem Knight went 1 for 2 with one RBI.
Suns 6, Reds 3
The Suns 10-12 squad moved to 2-0 on the season when they got by the Reds 6-3. Although the Reds outhit the Suns 5-4, their two untimely errors proved to be their undoing. The Suns scored six runs on four hits with two errors, and the Reds had three runs on five hits while also committing two errors. Daren Stevens got the win on the mound for the Suns, while Leocardio Castillo got the loss for the Reds. Top hitters for the Suns were Naji Jarvis, 3 for 3 with two home runs and two RBIs, and Jahiebo Joseph, 1 for 2 with one RBI. For the Reds, Sergio Santiago and Steven Rodriguez both went 1 for 2 with one RBI apiece.
