STEDMAN HODGE DEAD AT 63

Funeral services are pending for well-known St. Thomas attorney Stedmann Hodge who died Thursday at his law office of what is believed to have been a massive heart attack. He was 63.
Well-known in the legal community and in political circles, Hodge held positions as an assistant attorney general, and chairman of the Public Defenders Administration Board.
He was at one time a delegate to the Constitutional Convention and sought a seat in the Senate twice in the 1980s. Hodge was also the campaign manager for Sen. Adelbert M. "Bert" Bryan's unsuccessful bid for Government House in 1986.
A graduate of Howard University, Hodge is survived by his wife, Ritza Prince Hodge, and four sons. Other survivors include two sisters: Gloria Hodge Davis and Grace Sebastien; three brothers, former Legislature Executive Director Gerald "Gerry" Hodge, Larry Hodge and retired Presiding Judge of the Territorial Court Verne A. Hodge.
On Thursday, Gov. Charles Turnbull hailed Hodge as a formidable force behind the scene and on the front line of Caribbean politics. The governor said Hodge brought passion and commitment to the legal profession. "I offer sympathies to the many friends and family of Stedmann Hodge," Turnbull said.
