The Colianni and Colianni Enforcers, the National Guard Hummers and the Seaborne Stealers were the Bob Owens Slow-pitch Softball League winners on Tuesday at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. The Enforcers sank the Anchor Dive Pirates, 18-8, in game one. The Hummers cut down the Lumberjacks, 19-10, in game two. And the Stealers soared over the Lumberjacks in game three, 20-5, handing them their second loss of the night.
Enforcers 18, Pirates 8
The Enforcers made short work of the Pirates by whipping them by way of 10-run mercy rule, 18-8, in the opener. It was the Enforcers with 18 runs on 20 hits and three errors, while the Pirates finished with eight runs on 11 hits and four errors.
Javier Carpio was the winning pitcher and Edwin Sankitts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Clayton Pollock (3 for 4 with two homeruns and five RBIs) and Cory Moore (4 for 4 with two homeruns and five RBIs). For the Pirates, Arthur Cannonier was 2 for 3 with two homeruns and five RBIs, and Mario Simmonds was 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
Hummers 19, Lumberjacks 10
In game two, the Hummers handed the Lumberjacks the first of two losses they would suffer on the night by beating them 19-10. Roman Cruz got the win on the hill while Greg Miller got the loss.
The Guardsmen finished with 19 runs on 23 hits and two errors while the Jacks had 10 runs on 12 hits with four errors. Top batters for the Hummers were Kelvin Benscome (3 for 4 with two homeruns and two RBIs) and David Clarke (3 for 3 with a homerun and four RBIs). For the Lumberjacks, Sharif Hodge was 3 for 4 with two homeruns and six RBIs, and Greg Miller was 1 for 2 with a homerun and two RBIs.
Stealers 20, Lumberjacks 5
The Lumberjacks lost for the second time on the night in game three, when they ran into a hungry Seaborne Stealers squad who took them behind the woodshed for a 20-5 shellacking. The Stealers exploded for 20 runs on 19 hits and three errors, while the Jacks finished with five runs on a paltry nine hits and three errors.
Sam Ramos got the win for the Stealers and Greg Miller got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Sixto Pinero and Dave Schjang who were both 2 for 3 with two homeruns and two RBIs. For the Lumberjacks, Kai Miller was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Greg Miller was 3 for 4 with a homerun and two RBIs.
