The Tourism Department put out the word a couple of weeks ago that it needed hosts and entertainers on all three islands, but the response was poor so it’s asking again.
“We’re hoping more individuals respond,” Tourism Department spokesman Allegra Kean-Moorehead said Monday.
The hosts and entertainers need to be available during the week as well as weekends. Kean-Moorehead said the issue is especially important on St. Croix because most of the cruise ships call during the week.
Those hired as hosts will provide island information and assist guests on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.
“It’s all about the personality,” Kean-Moorehead said.
The host job pays $8 an hour, she said, but those hired as entertainers will set their own rates.
Entertainers, including musicians, dancers, and other performing artists who are interested in performing for visitors, must provide the department with demo CDs and prices, which can be dropped off at Tourism offices.
Applications for the host jobs may be picked up at Tourism Department offices on Strand Street in Frederiksted, St. Croix; at the Elainco Building across from the Nisky Moravian School and the John McCleverty Welcome Center at the Havensight cruise ship dock on St. Thomas; and at the Tourism Department’s Visitor Center in Cruz Bay on St. John.
Entertainers who have worked with the Tourism Department in the past are urged to update their files. All entertainers are required to have an appropriate Virgin Islands business license.
