Police Investigate St. Croix Homicide

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed near Frederiksted Thursday night, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Orlando Clarke, 20, of Estate Williams Delight, was shot multiple times in the area of the Prosperity gas station in Frederiksted and died at the scene.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area at about 8:22 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived they found Clarke behind the service station with multiple gunshots to his body. An ambulance arrived on the scene minutes later, but emergency medical technicians could not detect any signs of life.

It was the 14th homicide in the territory since the first of the year and the sixth on St. Croix. It was the fourth homicide in the territory this week, following three shooting deaths on St. Thomas in the previous four days.

Members of the Criminal Investigation and Major Crimes Bureau are investigating the case. Anyone with information on this homicide can call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 712-6077, the Major Crime Bureau at 712-6075 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
